The Reality of Nanotechnology in Iraq and the Possibility of Employing it in the Economy

Nanotechnology is one of the most important scientific and technical progresses in all fields during the past few years, as it is considered an industrial revolution for the twenty-first century. The importance of nanotechnology lies in the breakthrough it achieves in all fields, in addition to the solutions it provides to problems in most economic sectors. The research aims to shed light on the reality of nanotechnology in Iraq and the possibility of employing it in the Iraqi economy. The research reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which is that nanotechnology represents a golden opportunity for developing countries to catch up with scientific and technical development, and possessing this technology leads to narrowing the competitive gap between developing and developed countries. Iraq suffers from weak and deteriorating infrastructure for nanotechnology, represented by the education, scientific research and development sector, in terms of the small number of educational and scientific institutions, laboratories, scientific sources, books and equipment, and thus the low quality of education, in addition to the weak financial allocations directed to the education sector and the research and development sector. Based on these conclusions, the research recommended several recommendations, the most important of which is the necessity of adopting nanotechnology as an action plan for economic reform in Iraq, to keep up with the global technical and scientific development, and working hard to establish a financial incubator for nanotechnology by the government, to provide job opportunities and eliminate unemployment.
