Fuzzy logic and probability theory are both methods for dealing with uncertainty, but they approach the problem in different ways. Probability is a mathematical concept that assigns a numerical value to the likelihood of an event occurring, where the probability value always ranges from 0 to 1. A value of (0) means the event is impossible, while a value of (1) means the event is certain. On the other hand, fuzzy logic is a system that deals with uncertain or vague information by assigning different membership functions to a fuzzy set, expressed as continuous values within the interval [0,1], but these values do not necessarily represent the probability of an event occurring.
In fuzzy logic, assumptions are not simply true or false; they can be partially true or partially false. For example, the statement “the weather is hot outside” may be somewhat true depending on the temperature. Fuzzy logic allows this kind of partial truth.
